CANDIDATE FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE DELIVERS 900 TURKEYS TO FAMILIES

Pompano Beach, FL – This Thanksgiving, local activist and family advocate, Whitney Rawls, stepped up his service to the community. With the help of community partners, Rawls delivered 900 turkeys to families in Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Oakland Park and Lauderdale Lakes.

From Saturday, November 21 through Wednesday, November 25, Rawls and his team drove throughout four cities donating turkeys to churches, schools and families, helping them to save money and give their families a memorable Thanksgiving experience. Partnering with local churches and schools, Rawls and his team set out to ensure the turkeys were placed into the hands families and the elderly who needed them most.

“I’m just honored to be a part of making someone’s Thanksgiving special. Last year, we were able to give over 250 turkeys. This year, we did 900 and seeing a smile on someone’s face when they receive it has been the best part of it all. Plus, it’s been a way for us to give back to our seniors who have given us so much throughout the years,” says Rawls who is running for State Representative for District 92.

In addition to the turkey giveaway, on the morning of Thanksgiving, Rawls strapped on gloves and an apron along with several other elected officials, candidates and community leaders to feed the homeless and elderly in Lauderdale Lakes. The feeding was organized by Lauderdale Lakes activist Gwen Denton and took place at Merrell United Methodist Church. Some notables who participated were State Senator Chris Smith, Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Barrington Russell, Vice Mayor Eileen Rathery, Commissioner Edwina Coleman, Commissioner Gloria Lewis, and Lauderdale Lakes’ Fire Chief Kenneth Kronheim and Police Chief Andrew Dunbar.
