MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY ON SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

Pompano Beach, FL (November 27, 2015) – Saturday, November 28, 2015 is Small Business Saturday. Whitney Rawls, candidate for Florida State Representative for District 92, is encouraging everyone to make a big difference in their community by not only shopping locally but to also make an extra effort to spend money with local “small” businesses.

Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday was created as platform to support local small businesses at the start of the holiday shopping season. According to a Civic Economics Local Works! study in West Michigan done in 2008, shifting ten percent to local spending created a huge impact to an area. The study also showed that when $100 is spent locally, $73 of it stays in the community as opposed to only $43 when spending with non-local businesses. Similar studies done in different areas confirm the same: shopping locally and with small businesses has a huge benefit.

“As much as we want people to patronize large national chains, we also want them to support our local ‘mom and pop’ businesses. It helps us to recycle dollars in our local community. It stabilizes our small business owners. And, it provides continuity in employment, helps to create jobs, and is a source of community pride,” says Whitney Rawls who also chairs Pompano Beach’s NW CRA Advisory Board and serves as a member of the city’s Economic Development Council where he helps to create efforts that promote business and spur economic development.
